11/16-11/22 Weekly Recap

It’s Monday again… Why so soon?! At least I am fortunate to have a short work week. I just have to make it to Wednesday afternoon and I’m pretty much home free!

We celebrated Thanksgiving with our families this weekend since we will be in Holland Thursday, but it’s not going to stop me from chowing down again! Unfortunately, I didn’t get home early enough to grocery shop last night, so that’s on the agenda for today along with food prep for the rest of the week. Being home Thursday- Sunday will be a real test of willpower since I typically don’t do well food-wise when I am not in my normal routine.

Things are going even better than I could have imagined with my Tone It Up (TIU) workouts and I am organized and ready for the week ahead! My t25 DVD’s are scheduled to deliver today, so I am even more excited for my workouts! AND I have my 8K to look forward to on Thursday morning, which I am so pumped for!

Here’s a recap of last week:

Sunday- 3 mile run

Monday- TIU AM workout; Jillian Michaels 6 Week 6 Pack PM workout

Tuesday: TIU AM workout; 5 mile run

Wednesday: TIU AM workout

Thursday; TIU AM workout; 5 mile run

Friday: TIU AM workout

Saturday: Rest

I didn’t miss a single TIU workout, nor did I hit snooze once! 🙂 I also lost 2lbs (which I may have found this weekend) and am feeling amazing and full of energy.

My 100 to Christmas total is up to 37.5! By the end of the week I hope to be over 1/2 way there with only 4 weeks to go!

Here’s a little Monday motivation

Hope you have an AMAZING week! xo

TIU Update

It’s been 3 days since I started my new workout plan. So far I’m absolutely loving the Tone It Up workouts and community!

Tuesday’s workout was abs and arms, so naturally I just rolled on the ground afterward doing what I like to call “stretching”.

I was feeling great in the afternoon and decided to hop onto the treadmill and knocked out 5 miles toward my 100 by Christmas challenge!

After working on my Accounting project all night, I finally crawled into to bed exhausted but super proud of a successful day.

Yesterday’s workout was a HIIT workout followed by a kettle bell workout. I have also re-introduced green smoothies into my life for breakfast and I just can’t get enough.

The top right was my “it’s one day closer to the weekend so let’s celebrate” selfie. 😉

These workouts are no joke. I am sore all over and have discovered muscles I never knew existed. I’ve had a lot more energy, which I think stems from both working out more and being able to wake up later in the morning to work out. It’s so nice being able to just walk downstairs instead of having to drive to the gym. Especially since Holland is buried under piles of snow.

I’m also drinking so much more water and have been killing it with food prep and clean eating. I know it’s only a few days in, but I have a ton of momentum and have already dropped 2lbs. 🙂

Have a great Thursday!!

Workout Makeover

I am in desperate need of a workout makeover. For the past couple months I have been in major denial of my ability to motivate myself to go to the gym. I have a membership, which isn’t cheap, and rarely use it. That’s not ok with me.

It has come down to a couple reasons for me:
– I have had a very busy schedule and having to be in a class at a certain time hasn’t worked for me.
– The gym gets busy in the mornings so you have to get there extra early if you want to guarantee you have a spin bike or spot in class. This means that I have to get up extra early just to get to the gym and wait (like, 4:45am early). I don’t love this.
– The classes have been the exact same for an entire year now. The lack of variety is starting to get to me big time.

In addition, I have a gym at work for free that I can use, and I end up there more than at MVP, so it’s just not really paying off for me anymore. I am very determined and self-motivated. I don’t need classes to keep me accountable anymore, so I want to see how I do on my own. If I start to slack, or decide I want to go back to the classes there is really no harm in that. I know I can sign back up at any time for the same student rate. I just don’t have the guilt when I don’t go.

So, here is my new plan, which I am SO excited about:
– I am going to continue running and unofficially training for races throughout the winter. I love running and am so inspired by how well my body has been reacting to the long treadmill runs! Once my 100 miles by Christmas plan is over I’ll find something else to keep me going and challenged!
– I am jumping on the Tone It Up bandwagon. It’s a workout program by two girls, Karena and Katrina, who post weekly workouts and meal plans. There is a community on Instagram who follows along and encourages each other and there are some amazing success stories.
– My focus will be on a combo of weight loss and toning. I have lost a pretty good deal of weight already (40lbs in a year), so it’ll be keeping up with that while adding in toning exercises.
-In addition to Tone It Up, which has an awesome app for $0.99!

I am planning on using videos via YouTube and ones that I buy. The ones I have my eye on are the Jillian Michaels 6 week 6 pack series (I have done one of her videos and it’s a killer workout) and the t25 workouts from Shaun T, which I’ve heard great things about. Plus side, everything can be done from home at my convenience. If I want to do a morning workout I can get up at 6am! Heck yeah!
– I plan on purchasing some weights for home, and a device that turns my mountain bike into an indoor spin bike (because I can’t get away from spin completely!).
– I am working on a food/workout calendar (because I crave structure) to follow along with and keep me on track.
– I am posting all of my progress here and on Instagram (@sixfootfit), so follow along, hold me accountable and cheer me on through my journey! 🙂 Including pics of my progress. Since abs are a big goal, here’s my ‘before’:

Yes, it is terrifying putting a picture of your stomach on the Internet for all of the world to see. But it’s incredibly motivating for me and holds me accountable (as does this blog in general). I have worked very hard for that stomach, un-toned as it may be, and refused to be ashamed or embarrassed by it. I’m proud of where I’m at, even though it is just a stepping stone to where I want to be.

I know my plan will need tweaks along the way, but I’m really excited to get started!!

In other news, it’s snowy and freezing and not looking like it’s going to let up anytime soon. Good thing I got my new coat in the mail on Friday, which I’m obsessed with.

The cold is actually helping me stay motivated throughout my workouts. I am so desperate to warm up that I look forward to a good sweat sesh.
I started the morning with today’s Tone It Up routines and a green smoothie.

And finished with a little Jillian Michaels 6 Week 6 Pack.

Warmth 🙂

I love starting Monday off right and setting myself up for a great week ahead.

Happy Tuesday!

100 Miles By Christmas Totals:
Megan: 27.5
Meghan: 26.2

Have a great Monday!

And So It Begins

Well, like it or not, winter is here.

I woke up to this winter wonderland and had an awesome 15-minute longer drive than normal to work due to the snow and ice. I know, I know, I live in Michigan so I can’t complain. At least I have a window seat and can watch the snow fall. And so it begins.

I couldn’t wait to run after work after stuffing my face full of Qdoba for lunch. I’m 0.5 miles shy of my 100 miles by Christmas goal! My 5.5 miles yesterday brought my total up to 24.5 miles. 🙂

It was really great that it was dark outside when I left. Oh, daylight savings.

Sweat makes me smile.

I was borderline starving after my workout and found some leftover carrots in my lunch bag. I couldn’t even wait to get into my car to eat them….

I got home and realized I had some pretty awesome chaffing on my chest. It was a combo of my sports bra and jacket I wore for the first 3/4 of my run. This used to be my favorite sports bra.. USED to be.

I’ve been inspired by how well my runs have been going and decided to get a little crazy before chowing down on Turkey Day.

It’s gonna be cold. Like, really cold. But the thought of stuffing and green bean casserole will be powering me through. Plus, it’s the first annual race for Zeeland so it will be pretty cool to be a part of it!

Bear was busy being a master mechanic for his friends out in the garage, so I ordered them pizza and myself a salad. It came with the largest pieces of spinach I’ve ever seen.

Eaten on the living room floor (throwing it back to my college days when I sat on the floor to eat every meal despite having a dining room table) while watching Biggest Loser.

It’s Friday!!! Here’s to a great weekend ahead!

Best. Email. Ever.

I don’t care how old I get, I will always love when class is cancelled. Imagine my surprise when I got this email from my professor yesterday:

I had no idea what to do with myself. I haven’t had a Tuesday night off in 12 weeks!

Luckily, I had already gotten my workout in for the day. 6 miles for lunch. This brought my 100 miles by Christmas total up to 19! 🙂

I am kind of loving the treadmill lately. I can go at a slow pace and I’ve had no injuries as of yet. My arches were a little sore during the first half of my run, but I think it’s just a combo of new terrain and still breaking in the new shoes.

I wised up and brought my iPad with me to work to watch while I ran.

I got a few funny looks, but I think it was mostly jealousy ;).

Since my ‘toddler snacks’ aka graham crackers and pb

were not enough to hold me until dinner (and I thought I’d have to wait until after class to eat), I made an emergency stop for popcorn. Because who doesn’t love it after a long run?

I didn’t even take it out of the shopping bag before diving in…

I am SO glad I finally ordered a new winter jacket! I decided on this one after a trip to the mall to try on a few styles:

Plus side was that I could order it in a tall size online. 🙂 It can’t get here soon enough because this is what I have to look forward to:

I LOVE the holidays and all, and snow is always a given come Thanksgiving, but the first time I see it in the forecast I’m always surprised.

Meg crushed another run yesterday!

She even got up extra early to run in the morning since she couldn’t after work. Running over sleep? She’s got her priorities straight ;).

Have a great Wednesday!!

Life Goal Complete

My Monday wasn’t too exciting, so this is going to be a bunch of randomness for you…

On Sunday I completed my life goal of reaching the gold level at Starbucks. I’m more proud of myself for reaching this goal than running two 1/2 marathons or starting grad school. 😉

I’m so proud of Meg for killing it at the gym this week already!

Why does she look cute after running and I just look sweaty, hot and scary?
My Monday night consisted of an accounting project that just won’t end, catching up on Revenge and snuggling with this guy:

That face though…

I’ve also decided I need a new house to decorate just so I have an excuse to buy this bed:

I told you this would be random.

Have a great Tuesday! I heard there’s snow in the not so distant future, so I’ll be crying the rest of the day.

Running for 7 Seasons

1- I’m obsessed with this song

I had it stuck in my head all morning and finally had to bust out my headphones and listen to it on replay all afternoon. So good.

I was looking forward to my run yesterday afternoon but wasn’t in the mood for music for whatever reason. The treadmill can be a little boring for longer runs though, so I downloaded the ABC Family app thinking there would be something on there that I could watch to keep me entertained. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw this:

I’ve mentioned before that Gilmore Girls is my favorite show in the entire world and now I get to watch it every time I run on the treadmill. I’m starting to love this 100 miles by Christmas thing more and more each day! I might just stay after work and knock out the remaining 90 miles today! 😉

As you could guess I hit the gym to get my run on yesterday after work. It was fine and all except I forgot a freaking sports bra. Let’s just talk about how terrible that was. Luckily, when I lost weight it was also in the ta-ta’s, so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

I managed to survive 5 miles on the treadmill, bringing my total up to 10 for the week.

So far so good. My knees don’t love the treadmill, but they just need to get used to the new ‘terrain’. No IT band pain and no tendonitis flair ups! 🙂

I ended the night the best way possible. Can’t stop, won’t stop.

Shout out to Meghan who’s also killing her runs this week! She’s up to 10.5 miles. I’m trying to convince her to run a race with me next year… 3.1, 6.2 or 13.1. But I’m hoping for the latter.

She also sent me this, which I love. Especially in light of every single person I know being pregnant right now!

Pretty good motivation right there!

It’s finally Friday! I thought this day would never come. Here’s to a great weekend ahead!

Breakfast of Champions

I’ve discovered my new favorite breakfast food…

Raspberries, which were left over from the weekend and an iced coffee from Starbucks (I get an iced coffee with 2 pumps of sugar free syrup (caramel, vanilla, hazelnut or cinnamon) with soy milk). I was just talking the other day about how unsuccessful I am with buying fruit. I can buy apples and bananas all day long, but berries are always gross, grapes are always mushy and my oranges are always moldy inside. Why doesn’t grad school offer a class in this!? This meal, random as it is, hit the spot.

Honeycrisp apples make it easy…

Can it just be fall forever!?

I woke up to my alarm, shut it off and went back to bed. Yes, again. Derek even made the comment “your ‘move the phone across the room’ trick isn’t really working for you, huh?'”. Rude. 😉 It still didn’t make me feel bad enough to actually go to the gym though.

I hit up crossfit at lunch instead

Yep, I’ve downgraded my weights. I’m not kidding myself anymore. My legs are gonna be sore from all of the squats that we did.

I’d like to know why this Larabar is called cashew COOKIE!?

As good as this flavor is it still does not resemble a cookie at all. Liars.

One day closer to the weekend and no class til Tuesday. Hallelujah! Happy Thursday!
